While on the beautiful motu Niue, the Inaugural Pasifika Jersey for the Cronulla Sharks was announced. Allen Vili and I (Katal Creative Studio) had the privilege of co-designing this historic jersey.
To see it come to life has been a huge blessing — one we don’t take lightly. With deep gratitude, we acknowledge the players, fans & communities who carry our cultures with pride. Being part of this history is something we’ll always cherish.
For me, having the katoua represent our Tāgata Niue players — past, present & future — is a true honour. This design speaks not only to Pasifika players, but also to the wider Pasifika community whose stories deserve to be seen, celebrated & remembered.
A heartfelt alofa to our brother Leo Tanoi — your fierce advocacy for Pasifika voices in the GLAM sector continues to inspire. We see you, we appreciate you, and we carry this moment with you.

The Story Behind the Jersey
Every element in the Cronulla Sharks inaugural Pasifika Jersey carries meaning. As Katal Creative Studio we wanted this design to honour our Pasifika players, families & communities.
As a Niue artist and designer the katoua stands proudly to represent our Tāgata Niue players — past, present & future. Other patterns and motifs woven into the jersey reflect the strength, unity, and journeys of our Pasifika peoples.
We are humbled to share this story through design, knowing it speaks to more than sport — it speaks to identity, heritage & pride.
