Our Story

WELCOME

Meet KATRINA IOSIA and ALLEN VILI, the dynamic duo of artists and designers collectively known as Onesian. Together, they form ‘Katal,’ an innovative force melding artistry with technology. Their collaborative journey delves deep into the realms of digital design and creative technology, traversing the intricate tapestry where art and innovation converge.

Katrina Iosia: A luminary in the realm of digital mediums, Katrina stands as a pioneer in Aotearoa’s artistic digital landscape. Her expertise spans across artistic mediums including Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR), where she serves as both a visionary designer and creative developer. Notably, she is an ambassador for Spectacles AR-powered glasses.

Allen Vili: With a rich lineage of arts experience spanning over two decades, Allen emerges as a multifaceted artist and creative technologist. His mastery extends across a spectrum of mediums, including Virtual Reality (VR), Extended Reality (XR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Through his technical prowess, Allen continually crafts captivating works that resonate with a profound voice and visual prowess.

Together they work in tandem to provide technical awe inspiring experiences. Through their collaborative work as Katal, they continue to explore the relationship between digital space and real-time experiences. They use re-imagined 3D landscapes sculpted into digital spaces to craft personal narratives and indigenous stories. With each intersection and divergence across technological universes, Katal challenges and pushes the boundaries of digital space, offering a unique perspective on the role of technology in our lives. They provide educational workshops for AR, MR, VR and Ai that tailor to the communities that they serve.

Our first creative project of the year was collaborating with AMF – All My Friendz Collective, in celebration of the Auckland Pride Festival. Together, we embarked on a journey to infuse the festival with an Augmented Reality (AR) experiences, specifically designed for AMF for three locations.

Each meticulously crafted AR component served to activate the Proud Centres in Tamaki Makaurau, amplifying the festival’s vibrancy and inclusivity. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to AMF for entrusting us with their creative vision, allowing us to bring life into their beautiful designs in real-time, thus fostering greater accessibility and engagement for a diverse audience at the Auckland Pride Festival.

Ellen Melville Centre

Location #1 – Freyberg Place stairs the design was crafted to showcase the lyrics of Tyrun Posimani and the artwork of AMF – All my friendz collective. Mariadelle Gamit providing the digital illustrations. Jo Wong the Dragon that is seen throughout all the designs.

Aotea Centre Stairs

Location #2 – 50 Mayoral Drive – The AR design a the Aotea Centre stairs. The QR code placement was at the base of the stairs. The design highlights the significance of freedom, respect, equity and peace as we celebrate Pride Festival and elements of Lunar New Year with it being the Year of the Dragon 2024.

Studio One Toi Tu

Location #3 – 1 Ponsonby Road – The design for the AR portal, brings the drips from the window to you in a more personal experience. It transports the text and clouds through its designs and themes, created by AMF. The portal is the combination of all three sites, highlighting the celebration of Auckland Pride Festival.
