The Ooze is the first AR experimental experience in the SummAR series! Originally created as a physical sculpture in 2016, The Ooze was inspired by the ephemeral nature and unpredictable process of materiality. This multimedia sculpture was made using a mix of builders’ materials and traditional art mediums—an experimental piece where the materials shaped their own outcome, oozing and transforming unpredictably when exposed to air.
For the AR experience, I’ve used this sculpture as the foundation, evolving it into a living, breathing organism. The transition from physical to digital allows the work to exist beyond the confines of a gallery space, bringing it into everyday environments. Now, anyone can experience The Ooze in their favorite place—whether out in the urban landscape, deep in the wild, or from the comfort of their own home.
This project is part of my ongoing exploration into the intersection of sculpture and digital space, where materials, textures, and forms shift beyond static boundaries. By integrating AR technology, the work gains a new, interactive dimension—allowing audiences to engage with it in a way that would be impossible in a traditional exhibition setting.
An update 1/3
While activation numbers of ‘The Ooze’ numbers for activation and engagement were low in Ōtepoti (Dunedin) . Once I had released it into the wider global AR community the rest was history the numbers are climbing daily.
